چکیده

Abstract CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is most important laboratory particle physics in world. It requires cutting edge technologies to deliver scientific discoveries. This paper investigates time span needed technology suppliers of CERN absorb knowledge acquired during procurement relation and develop it into a patent. We estimate count data models relying on sample Large Hadron Collider (LHC), accelerator. Procurement Strategies with Unreliable Suppliers

We propose and analyze a general periodic-review model in which the firm has access to a set of potential suppliers, each with specific yield and price characteristics. Assuming that unsatisfied demand is backlogged, the firm incurs three types of costs: (i) procurement costs, (ii) inventory-carrying costs for units carried over from one period to the next, and (iii) backlogging costs. Patents as a Spur to Subsequent Innovation? Evidence from Pharmaceuticals

This paper examines how an incumbent’s patent protection acts as an implicit subsidy toward non-infringing substitutes. I analyze whether classes of pharmaceuticals whose first entrant has a longer period of market exclusivity (time between approval and generic entry) see more subsequent entry. Instrumenting for exclusivity using plausibly exogenous delays in the development process, I find tha...
